Ogun West Senator Solomon Adeola said the late Humphrey Nwosu, former chairman of the National Election Commission (NEC), should not be honored in the June 12, 1993 hero.
Naija News The Senate defeated the motion for immortality by voice vote Thursday after the Senate was rejected in a plenary session on Wednesday.
The motion is Senator Enininnaya Abariib, Senator Abba Moro and other Southeast senators. The bill failed in the Senate, causing Southeastern senators to attack violently from the red room.
Senator Adeola said in a debate on the motion that the late NWOSU professor failed to save Nigeria’s democracy on June 12, 1993.
According to a report by the former Lagos Western Senator, from 2015 to 2023, NWOSU released the June 12 results, but failed to announce them. All Progressive Assembly (APC) senators recommend that the Senate vote on the motion.
His words:Mr. President, outstanding colleagues, this is a problem I avoid as much as possible. Yesterday, when Senator Abaribe brought up this, I stood up and said no, I will not allow this to happen. Because he wants to remind me of a very sad memory. And I’m not following parties or ethnic boundaries. I lost my direct brother due to Humphrey Nwosu’s actions or inaction. He died behind me for him (NWOSU), refusing to serve as INEC chair or perform his duties.
“Many of my colleagues here stood up and said he had the freest and fairest election. We should look at three different meanings and three different interpretations: conducting the election, publishing the results and announcing the results. Yes, he had the election. Yes, there were schools of thought, some schools of thought that you and I knew the results were not announced.
“He failed at a critical moment when this democracy should be saved. Today, we celebrate Abiola, or those who have contributed to the success story of June 12, because they gave their lives and they put their lives on the line. If he timidly withdraws what was right at the critical moment, I think my brother should be fair enough here.
“We are not saying that he should not mention his own affairs, as my colleagues have said, everyone we should celebrate is here to celebrate them. Don’t forget that this is the highest legislature of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and we should consider ourselves as a Nigeria in Nigeria. Things.”
