Former President Olusegun Obasanjo launched a harsh attack on President Bola Tinubu’s government, describing the N15.6TN Lagos-Calabal Coastal Highway Project as “waste and corruption”.
Obasanjo also criticized the government’s decision to spend 2.1 billion guilds on Vice President Kashim Shettima in his new book Nigeria: Past and Future, calling it a “misplaced priority” and a “breeding aimed at misappropriating public funds.”
Obasanjo expressed concern about the country’s corruption and governance disadvantage, noting that many people in leadership positions “are ready, Satan, Satan, self-centered and all corruptly enrich themselves, while the country continues to be impoverished and condemned with extreme poverty and reprehensible poverty and condemnation”.
He noted that some CEOs are well-known to deceive, lie and try to cover up the reality and facts of contract rewards, agreements, treaties, borrowing and forward sales of state assets. “A CEO like this is not suitable for the job he or she does.”
Obasanjo suggested that it is necessary to interrogate Western practices of liberal democracy and see how it is reviewed to reflect the characteristics of Africa. “Let’s call it non-democracy… it’s from the African democratic system and we will create a constitution for the African people for any African who chooses to move towards African democracy.”
