Timothy Amosun, a junior high school student, 14, died after a heavy rain destroyed Mayigi Community Comprehensive High School in Olase.
The Ogun government confirmed the incident on Wednesday, March 19 through a statement by Mr Lekan Adeniran, chief press secretary of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Five other students, two teachers, a food supplier and her seven-month-old child were also injured in the tragic incident.
The governor sympathized with the victims of heavy rainstorms, which caused the collapse of school buildings in the Elokiya local government area of the state.
He described the incident as a rude shock and painful tragedy for affected families and communities.
“We pray that God will give the families of the dead to endure this irreplaceable loss,” the governor said.
He assured the public that the state government would pay for the medical expenses of those injured in the heavy rain.
The governor also directed that victims in critical situations will be transferred to specialized hospitals inside and outside Ogun for comprehensive medical services.

Moses Amosun responded on behalf of the family, applauding the governor, his agents and others in the delegation, saying that while it was a painful loss, the existence of the state government showed that they were not alone.
