Senator Ovie Omo-agege, former vice-chairman of the Senate, has assured leaders and members of all Progressive Assembly (APC) in the Delta State that the party will adopt a free, fair and transparent process in the upcoming Congress to elect its leadership people.
At the APC Elders, Leaders and Stakeholders Conference in Ibusa and Asaba on Tuesday, Omo-Agege stressed that leadership must be won through merits, not through a fall-out deal.
“Our leadership must be determined through a transparent democratic process.

“Those who are eager for positions should go to the scene, mobilize support, and let the best candidates show up. We must stop behind closed doors, some of them decide who takes office,” he declared.
According to Omo-agege, a lack of fairness in leadership choices will lead to internal conflicts within the party. He stressed that controversy often arises because many party members feel cheated in the process.
“If the process is transparent and fair, even the lost process will accept the results,” he said.
He criticized the tendency for some to be nominated for negotiation purposes only and not real political participation.

“In past elections, we have seen cases where people get nomination forms without real intentions, and they only seek leverage in negotiations. That’s not real political participation. We have to prioritize candidates with practical capabilities and commitments.” He declared.
Looking to the next APC conference, Omo-Agage recognizes the inherent competitiveness of the political process and urges party members to prepare for strict competitions.
“There is never effortless to hand over power to anyone, there is no magical moment, someone simply gains leadership. It has to be fought for and won,” he said.
His concerns about partial discrimination within the party assured him that political disputes are natural and will be resolved in due course.
“Not everyone will be on the same page, which is politically OK. Even in the family, there are differences, but ultimately reconciliation. The same is true for our political parties,” he explained.
Despite the challenges in the 2023 election, he acknowledged the resilience of Delta APC members and he appreciated their commitment.
“I have to acknowledge the great efforts our members have made,” he said. “Despite the challenges – including the absence of my friend and leader Peter Nwaboshi, the local government still provides nearly 6,000 A legal vote. More votes were lost due to manipulation and cancellation.”
He expressed his gratitude for his loyalty to their support and reiterated his commitment to strengthening the APC’s presence in the Delta.
“If I don’t come here in person to express my gratitude, it would be a height of discomfort. You stand by us and I admit your sacrifice,” he said.
Omo-agege dismissed the claim that DELTA is a PDP, which is Delta, which shows that the party has achieved a major election victory in 2023 to demonstrate its growing strength.
“Despite the difficulties we have encountered in 2023, we have performed well. We have won two Senate districts and two House seats. In my Senate district, even the current governor is from the APC, the APC has performed well. More than PDP,” he asserted.
He further pointed out that the influence of APC is expanding, and famous politicians from other political parties are quietly moving towards the party.
