Punk said former President Goodluck Jonathan expressed concerns about the deployment of military forces in the Nigerian election process, noting that it had made excessive demands on the armed forces.
Jonathan stressed at a book launch in Abuja on Tuesday that oversight of elections should be primarily the duties of the police and the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).
He noted that in many other countries, the military (especially the military and the air force) can help transport election materials to places that are inaccessible or at high risk, rather than providing security at polling stations as in Nigeria.
