Nigerian singer Esegine Orezi Allen, popularly known as Orezi, has responded to viral comments by US President Donald Trump, who recently threatened to deploy US troops to Nigeria following reports of attacks on Christians in the country.
Trump’s statement sparked widespread discussion online, with some celebrities criticizing religious leaders for remaining silent amid the ongoing killings of Christians in the country.
In response to the issue, Orezi posted a video in which U.S. officials discussed the 2022 genocide in northern Nigeria, mentioning the brutal killing of Deborah Samuel, a student who was lynched on suspicion of blasphemy.
Oretsi expressed her outrage over the incident in the caption, denouncing the lack of justice for Deborah and similar victims. He lamented that Nigerian authorities often do not value the lives of citizens, describing such negligence as unacceptable.
The singer noted that no family should have to experience the pain and injustice suffered by Deborah’s parents, stressing that Nigeria has failed many of its people by allowing such atrocities to persist.
It will be recalled that in May 2022, Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, was stoned and burned to death by her classmates after she advised against discussing religion in a WhatsApp group.
