Philip Shaibu, former Edo State deputy governor, revealed that his decision was supported by his former principal, Godwin Obasaki, due to his respect for the former National Progressive Conference (APC), Adams Oshiomhole.
Naija News Xiabu reportedly said he was reserved to Obaseki in an interview on the channel’s political paradigm plan on Tuesday.
Shaibu said he had never had any confidence in Obaseki’s leadership even before taking office on November 12, 2016.
He further explained that despite his initial reluctance, he ultimately supported Obaseki out of respect and based on the assurance given by Oshiomhole.
He said “Obaseki is not a politician. We made him the governor, and Oshiomhole convinced us. I’m not one of those who think he shouldn’t be the governor because I don’t believe him.
“I was the last person standing and saying no to him when he was brought to the game, but out of respect, I was convinced. But we were told that comrades predicted well that we needed him because we were going to go into a recession and we needed someone with an economic background in the private sector. We believed in comrades, we didn’t believe in him.”
Reflecting on their first term in office, Shaibu said that their political structure was demolished to accommodate Obaseki and trusted Oshiomhole’s vision for the country, but the dynamics of the second term were very different.
He added, “We took down our structure and gave him everything. The second term was another ball game; it was an era for the godfather of Edo.
