After a series of internal reviews and assessments, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) dissolved the State Working Committee (SWC) led by Solomon Agwanana. The decision was announced by the Southern Regional Working Committee (ZWC) after meeting at the Regional Secretariat in Port Harcourt, River State. Zonal Propaganda Minister Etim Isong Prince Prince Sight confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 22.
According to the statement, the ZWC also announced the dissolution of the guard committee in Edo State and immediately appointed the new guard committee in Bayelsa and Edo. The party believes that serious misconduct, poor performance and poor management of the internal party crisis are key reasons for the action, and points out that the action to disband the executives violates the PDP Constitution.
Regional Secretary George Turnah, a famous ally of the Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, was appointed as the guardian chairman in Bayelsa for three months. Turnah also leads the political group of the new hire (Bayelsa), which recently pledged to support Wike. His appointment marks a change in the party’s leadership momentum in the state.
Other members of Bayelsa’s caretaker committee include Tony Gabriel as Vice-Chair Ebilade Ekerefe as Secretary, Didi Ebiekake Werilaghebofa as Vice-Chair, Andy Majors of Andy Andy for East, Evelyn Bolouebi Odi, West and Biobelemoye Ogobelemoye ogobelemoye ogobelemoye ogobelemoye ogobelemoye ogobelemoye ogobelemoye ogobelemoye ogobelemoye ogobelemoye ogobelemoye ogobelemoye ogobelemoye ogoniiwari as treaseurerererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererererer The reorganization aims to stabilize political parties and restore confidence among their members before future elections.
Isong stressed that the reorganization follows the constitutional provisions outlined in the 2017 amendment charter. He expressed optimism that these changes would strengthen the party’s structure and improve the leadership efficiency of Bielsa and Edo countries.
In the ongoing power struggle between Vick and the governor of Bayelsa State, these changes are ongoing power struggles that create tensions within the state party. Wike has been with the governor’s loggerheads, and he has seen his faction gain support, including the appointment of Turnah as caretaker chairman.
Meanwhile, the new hires group led by Turnah earlier arranged a rally in Yenagoa on April 12 to show support for Wike and thanked President Bola Tinubu for appointing Bayelsa Indigenes to the federal position. However, the state government opposed the incident and issued a court order that restricted the occurrence of the rally. The group has since rescheduled the rally on April 26, 2025.
