Nigeria News Nalin It was reported that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had asked Senate President Godswill Akpabio to step down immediately and provide a transparent investigation into the allegations of sexual harassment imposed by lawmakers in Kogi Central Central, which represents Natasha Akpoti-uduaghan in Kogi Central Central District.
The PDP believes that women have their own rights and discrimination against them is unacceptable and unconstitutional.
In an interview with Punch, PDP National Propaganda Minister Debo Ologunagba said the Senate scandal was embarrassing, noting that important issues that require the attention of the Red Room were ignored.
He said:We do think that when you blame Senator Akpabio, it is appropriate that the Senate president now resigns temporarily for proper investigation. Senator Akpabio should resign and allow investigations because he cannot be judged in his own case.
“As a political party, we believe that women should have their own rights and that discrimination against anyone, especially women based on women, is unacceptable and unconstitutional.”
According to the propaganda scribe, as a respected institution, the Senate needs to look in the mirror, do the right thing, and save the country from unnecessary embarrassment.
“We do know that the Senate itself will have the responsibility to investigate these issues and these allegations and to handle them appropriately. But beyond that, I think it’s an embarrassment for the country. There are big problems. There are bigger problems. The Senate has bigger issues to deal with.
“The Senate presidents should be challenged by these issues in the country. Indeed, the issues raised are very worrying, especially in these allegations; they need to investigate.
“We do know that the Senate has a process of studying such issues because it once again reaches a level that embarrasses the country. But it just shows you the problem levels of all the progressive Congress and the structure and leaders in the APC.
“We could have expected that even the Senate should now take such action to address unnecessary interference with these real matters. Senator Akpabio has a responsibility to himself, the country and the Senate institutions to ensure the truth emerges. If he does want to conduct a clear and true investigation, then the matter should be investigated,” Mouseilliant added.
