2023 Labor presidential candidate Peter Obi proposed that Nigeria has no functional democracy.
According to him, the failure of the country to meet expectations would be a fundamental requirement of a democratic environment, because the government should not work for the people in a properly defined democratic environment.
He believes that Nigeria can be described at best as a democracy.
Peter Obiin an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday, lamenting the charges of Nigeria’s leadership in leadership, with unverified and forged certificates and criminal records.
He added that a country without an independent judiciary and an effective legislature cannot say that real democracy has been practiced.

In his words “You can’t have a democracy without a functional and effective legislature, you know we don’t have it today.
“There are unverified people who forge certificates, criminal records and everything, and are responsible.
“Yes, maybe we’re trying to be a democracy, but the way we are today is not. Look at what’s going on in the river, can you call that democracy?”
