Peter Obi called for INEC reform to improve Nigeria’s reputation elections.

Nigerian News Nalin It is reported that Peter Obi, former governor of Aanbra, called for an emergency reform of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) to improve the reputation of the election and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.

He is represented by senior chief Peter AMeh, a party management strategist, and a former state chairman of the former State Cross -Consulting Committee (IPAC). Politics and political parties. ” Monday held a meeting on strengthening Nigerian democracy in Abuja on Monday.

OBI emphasizes that INEC needs to be solved, and believes that the current responsibility of the committee is overwhelming and hinders its effectiveness.

He pointed out that there are no election agencies in the world to bear such a wide range of duties.

“INEC should only focus on the election behavior to provide freedom, justice and credible procedures. When too many activities, it loses its main task.” Obi said.

He explained that wide responsibilities assigned to INEC, such as political party registration and supervision of voters’ registers, and diluted their ability to effectively carry out elections.

“INEC has a major burden on the task that is not directly related to its core functions. For example, supervising political party activities should be a separate authorization and can only diversify the basic responsibility of holding elections.” He said.

Obi also advocates the establishment of a political party registration and supervision committee to manage party affairs and implement the principles of democracy within the party.

He pointed out that INEC failed to ensure that the internal democracy within all parties caused the current situation of political turmoil.

“A separate institution is needed to supervise how the parties conduct activities and ensure that they abide by the principles of democracy. Political parties must be responsible for internal democracy, transparent, and internal democracy.” He said.

The former governor acknowledged that there were several reform proposals, referring to a group led by the OWE OWE group, Judge LEMU and Senamani Senator.

He said these suggestions emphasized the needs of INEC’s focus on election management.

“INEC must be reorganized to become a more slim and more effective body, focusing on the elections of unimportant freedom, fairness and credible elections.

“If we want to have a system suitable for each Nigerian, we must accept the reform proposed by these groups.” Obi said.

Obi also discussed the constitutional amendment required for more effective elections, and emphasized that the need to update Nigeria’s election framework to adapt to a more modern and more aggregated voting method.

“At present, the constitution that allows staggered elections, this is inefficient, leading to voters fatigue. The 132 (2), 174 (2), 64 (1), and 105 (1) should be modified to allow all elections in the day. This is essential for reducing costs, increasing the participation of voters, and eliminating the political advantages obtained by some parties through the unpacking election. “He explained.

He continued: “If we conduct all elections on the same day (the president, the National Assembly, the State Council and the State Council), we can save more than 50 % of the election costs, and the indifference we experience will be reduced. It is time to re -consider re -consideration Our election process and change to restore people’s belief in the system. “

Obi emphasized that not only political reforms are needed to improve INEC functions, but also to ensure that Nigeria is more fair and more effective.

“If the election process is defective, our democracy will not flourish. We must repair INEC to solve our democracy. This will allow a credible, transparent election procedure, which will lead to better governance we need.” He concluded.
