Hyacinth Governor Alia explained why he blocked Peter Obi from visiting Benue’s IDP camp.
Alia claimed in the last election that Labour’s presidential candidate violated the standard scheme because he failed to inform him before his visit, which was a polite request.
Alia said in an interview with TVC on Thursday, April 24 that Obi was blocked from visiting Benue IDP camp because his “intention” was unknown and that he violated the agreement without prior notification.
“A very respected Peter Obi is a governor. If you get into someone’s state, have an agreement. A high personality; you’re about to enter someone’s state and your party doesn’t even know you’re about to come.”
“I, the current governor, don’t know what you are coming. Then you’re going to my most protected place, the IDP camp. I have a responsibility to protect them. They’ve been displaced. I need to protect them more. I don’t know your intentions,” Mr. Aria explained.
He added: “As a current governor, I am not polite enough to even provide you with a greater sense of security and prepare you for the thoughts of the internally displaced people who are visiting them in the future?”
The governor denied that it was impossible for him to achieve when Anambra called him to inform him of his visit.
“No, that’s not the right narrative. I can never politicize it. I’m the first, painful and sad person to the IDP in my state,” Mr. Alia said. “No. That’s not the real story. If he (Mr. Obi) can’t contact me, I have a chief of staff, I have an SSG, and I have a PPS. It’s not true.”
Last week, Aria said he could not guarantee the safety of any individual or group that had not been aware of or cleaned up after Obi’s visit to the state.
However, Mr Obi lamented X that his planned visit to Benue was politicized.
