Recall that false reports about Chukwu’s death circulated in 2021, and the legendary coach refuted the rumor during his 70th birthday celebration on January 4, 2021.
Obi formally handled đť•Ź, describing Chukwu as one of Nigeria’s greatest football idols.
The 2023 Labor Presidential Candidate (LP) wrote: “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing to the greater glory of Christian Chukwu, one of Nigeria’s greatest football icons. Fondly known in football parlance as ‘Field Marshall’ and ‘Chairman’, he was not just a remarkable footballer but also an extraordinary leader who captured and coached the national team and his beloved club, Rangers International of Enugu, with distinction. His skill, discipline, and dedication to the beautiful game is proud of our country and brings joy to millions of fans in Africa and beyond.
“In addition to his game days, Christian Chukwu continues to serve as a coach and mentor, developing young talents and making a huge contribution to the development of football in Nigeria. His life is marked by resilience and patriotism, and his legacy will remain a shining example of what it means to represent the country with honor and integrity.
“Just a few weeks ago, the Rangers suffered another huge loss, and another captain, Christian Isiadinso, died in March.
“Christian Chukwu and Christian Isiadinso sacrificed everything for sports and our country, both embodying the spirit of resilience and patriotism.
