
Edo State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old suspected ritualist Uwadiae Airebiuwa, with a new head in the Evbuotubu dormitory in Benin City.
Command spokesman Moses Joel Yamu revealed this in a statement Saturday, March 8, 2025, saying the suspect led police to a road near the Eweka shopping mall where a beheaded body of a man was found.
According to PPRO, the deceased was later identified by a family member as 43-year-old fashion designer Edobor Lawrence.
“On 07/03/2025 at approximately 0300hrs, Operatives of Evbuotubu Division alongside vigilante members, while on patrol of the area, intercepted and arrested one Uwadiae Airebiuwa, 27yrs, of Igbinudu Street, Evbuotubu Quarters, in possession of a fresh human head contained in a polythene bag,” the statement read.
“After the interrogation, the suspect took them to the body of a man on the road near Evika Shopping Plaza.
The deceased was later identified by a family as Edobor Lawrence, 43, of Evbuotubu dormitory No. 1, and was evacuated to the hospital for preservation while the investigation was still ongoing.
“The Police Commissioner, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimeenyin PSC, MNIP, while begging the families of the deceased to assure them and the public that the commander will not rest until all persons involved in such a heinous crime are booked.
“She further advises young people to seek legal means of making money rather than risking crime.”
