
Akwa Ibom State Police Command man arrested a 32-year-old man identified as Ndifreke Isaiah Nelson, allegedly STR@Ngling his girlfriend, Emem Emem Effanga, 39, who was in her apartment for involving her phone number D3ATH.
State Police Department spokesman DSP Timfon John confirmed he had arrested him to a journalist, saying the suspect was arrested in a church in Uyo while trying to escape when the police were found.
According to PPRO, police received a report in February 2025 saying the deceased was found dead in suspicious circumstances.
“After arriving at the scene, agents observed violent marks on her face and neck, indicating that she was strangled and beaten to death.”
She added that the crime scene had been dealt with, evidence was recorded, the victim’s body was evacuated to the hospital, and medical staff confirmed her death. The remains were later stored in the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
John added that police investigations showed that Nelson was the last person to the deceased. She mentioned that he visited her residence on February 6, 2025 on the morning of his birthday.
During the interrogation, Nelson reportedly admitted to visiting Effanga and asked to use his cell phone to take pictures on social media for his birthday celebration. When she refuses, a struggle then takes place, during which he overwhelms her, strangles her with his hands, knocks her head against the floor, and makes her unconscious before escaping with the phone.
Police retrieved a super phone number belonging to the deceased from the suspect when they were arrested. After the disease is examined, the cause of death is officially recorded by the pathologist. The suspect will be prosecuted.
