The headquarters spokesman DSP Timfon John revealed this in a statement on Uyo on Saturday, February 7, 2025, after reports that James was illegally detained.

According to PPRO, the suspect voluntarily admitted to the crime of no coercion and added that the suspect will be prosecuted in court on Monday, February 10, 2025.

“The concern of the Akwa Ibom State Police Commander has been reported by the virus, accusing of illegal detention of a 10-year-old boy, Bright Okon James,” the statement said.

“To keep the record straight, the order hopes to clarify that the minor was detained after allegations of a three-year-old girl’s tainted (rejected).

“The case is currently under investigation, and the findings, including medical reports, provide evidence of the incident. In addition, the suspect voluntarily admitted no forced crime.

“He will file a lawsuit with the court accordingly on 10 February 2025. In addition, the headquarters clearly stated that the matter was not tormented.

“Under Nigerian law, this practice is criminal and the police strongly condemn any form of extrajudicial action.”

The PPRO added that under the leadership of Police Chief Baba Azare, the commander remains firm in upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice is aligned with due process.
