Nigerian police forces dismissed “false and misleading” information spread on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, accusing Luge Axis and 79 terrorists present, and police declared a curfew in the area.
Force spokesman ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said in a statement issued on Sunday, March 2 that the information was incorrect and should be ignored.
A police force spokesman explicitly debunked the claims in the news.
“The intelligence collected from the military intelligence teams and other security agencies, there are no terrorists taking refuge in the Luge area of the federal capital. The news was allegedly signed by “ACP Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the headquarters of the Public Relations Officer (FPRO) Police Department”, which is a fabrication.
The force believes that this information was generated by a cunning person/person with the intention of causing tension, inciting panic and undermining existing peace in the FCT. We urge citizens to digest news and information from the official processing forces on social media, @policeng on official processing, @policeng on X, @ngpolice on Facebook and Instagram on @nigeriapoliceforce and verified news sources. ”
Adejobi urges the public to exercise caution when sharing information online and to verify the authenticity of any security-related alerts with official resources before dissemination.
“Citizens should ignore news and information that are not derived from real police sources and should not panic because of unverified news circulating on social media.
“Nigerian police force remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and residents in the Federal Capital Region and the entire country. We encourage the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through our emergency contact line.
The Nigerian Police Department appreciates the cooperation of the public and assures them that we firmly protect our lives and property. ”
