Police fired police officer who was a woman, injured in Calabar

Cross River State Police Command has dismissed an officer, Inspector Effiong Bassey, who created the identity of a woman in the state capital Calabar.

Remember, on Sunday, March 23, 2025, Bassey went crazy, Open Onlookers opened fire along Watt Market Road near Atakpa Police Station.

Three officers’ wandering bullets attacked three people, including Charles Nkpang Ene (pictured) and Ijeoma Wilson Obot.

Mrs. Obert was supposedly the wife of a retired policeman who later succumbed to her injuries.

The headquarters spokesman Irene Ugbo confirmed the firing in a statement on Monday, April 14, saying Brazil has been charged with taking it to court and remanding it at the Afokang Correctional Centre.

“The police have been formally fired, sued in court and remanded in custody at the Afokang Correctional Centre. We visited the family of the deceased on the same day and also went to the Calabar University Teaching Hospital to see the injured victims who underwent successful surgery,” the statement said.

“As we said, victims are recovering and we are working to ensure that all affected parties are well cared for. We have never given up on any victims, including the families of the deceased.

“In fact, we have provided financial support since the first day of the incident, and no one including the family of the deceased, the victim and their families, who were not carried with them. I can assure you that the surgery for the victim who was shot on the neck was successful, he is recovering quickly, and we will learn more about his health.”

She criticized the unverified report she described for showing that police ignored the victims and urged reporters to confirm the details before release.
