The Delta State Police Command has begun investigating the situation of Governor Delta, Shimite Love, special counsel for Sheriff Oberevwori.
Shimite died in the early hours of Easter on Monday, April 21, 2025 at St. Luke Hospital in Asaba, where she was taken to receive medical treatment.
What was collected was that Shimite’s body was found after the maid called her brother and expressed concern that her husband allegedly locked her in the house all day.
Her brother rushed over and found her in the room, foam already floating out of her mouth. He took her to the hospital, but she was declared D3AD when she was announced.
Command spokesman SP Bright Edafe confirmed D3ATH and the ongoing investigation.
EDAFE said Shimite was “confirmed in D3AD where she was taken to her hospital, while her husband is currently in protective custody.
“He (husband) is a man who called for reports of his wife’s death early this morning and is receiving threats from his family and worried that he might be attacked. On this basis, we went to his house and brought his safety to our own safety,” Edafe said.
PPRO stresses that the husband is in protective detention centers rather than being arrested.
“However, when the family of the deceased later filed a formal complaint with the police, the situation became more complicated,” Edafe revealed.
The family expressed doubts that the husband might have played a role in Shimite’s D3ath in complaints.
To address these issues, police said a thorough investigation has been conducted.
He added: “We are currently investigating. In this case, only an autopsy can determine whether D3ATH is natural or otherwise.”
Police said they will release further updates as the investigation progresses.
Meanwhile, the family claimed that Shimite’s husband isolated her from her loved ones and strictly controlled her movements.
“Since he entered her life, he cut off everyone. Her brother couldn’t even visit. He wouldn’t let her go to the office. He always dragged her. Even her name on all her property in Abuja, his other places had changed to his name. We believe she was manipulated,” a family source told Sahara Reporters.
