
Edo State Police Command has begun a full investigation into a fatal car accident that led to D3ATH of a 2-year-old girl.
The tragic incident occurred in the ring area of Benin City within about 1730 hours on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
According to a gathering, a commercial driver smashed the minor to D3ATH after a clash with officials from the Edo Public Safety Response (PSR) team in Linlu Road.
Witnesses reported that the PSR operator attempted to grab the steering wheel of the moving vehicle, causing the driver to lose control.

Angry crowds at the scene attacked PSR officials and then took them to a nearby police station along with the inanimate body of the child.
Command spokesman Moses Joel Iyamu, confirmed the incident in a statement Thursday, said efforts were being made to identify and arrest the driver who fled the scene.
“The tragic incident involved a white Vannette bus with Reg. No Ben 406 Ya crashed into some pedestrians, ostensibly to escape arrests from Edo National Public Safety Response members. Unfortunately, a girl about 2 years old died while her mother is currently receiving treatment in the hospital,” the statement said.
“After receiving the accident report, agents from the Essigi Division Headquarters headed by the district traffic officers quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation, and the public safety response member accused of causing the accident was rescued from the mob and detained. Detained for investigation. The child’s life, inanimate body, was rushed to the hospital, confirmed to have died.
“As part of the ongoing investigation, efforts are underway to identify and arrest drivers who fled the scene. Other records, along with graphic evidence, were also used to help determine the cause of the accident.
“At the same time, the Edo National Police Commissioner, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimeenyin, PSC, MNIPS, urges all motorists to comply with all traffic rules on the road, obey the authorities and exercise patience.
