Assistant Inspector (AIGS) Benneth Igweh, Idowu Owohunwa and four other senior officials are at risk of demotion or complete dismissal after allegations of age forged and bypassing service regulations.

The information has been confirmed by a source at the Force Headquarters, referring to a February 7, 2025 wireless information directing affected officials to appear in front of the Police Discipline Committee.

The officers convened include: Aig Benneth Igweh, Aig Idowu Owohunwa, DCP Simon Lough (San), CP Aina Emmanuel, CP Salama Abdul and Adepoju Obobenga.

Officials were directed to attend hearings in “clean work dress” and strictly adhere to daily dress codes.

The hearing is scheduled from Monday, February 10 to Thursday, February 13, 2025.

Sources revealed officials face demotion after the committee conducted a review, where they were supposed to retire. In addition, the salary received during the long service period may be refunded.

“After the Discipline Committee, officers will be demoted and dismissed. They will be demoted to retirement and pay the police the salary they received during this period.,” the source said.

The Police Services Commission (PSC) approved the immediate retirement of all police officers who have been in service for 35 years or have reached 60 years of age.

Since then, on February 1, 2025, the Attorney General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun ordered the immediate retirement of affected officials.

However, the officials in question refused to retire on the grounds that Egbetokun’s own term extension was their reason for staying.
