Benue’s police command rescued 14 Benue Links passengers at the state’s Otukpo LGA on Thursday night.
The headquarters spokesman SP Sewuese Anene confirmed the development to journalists, saying the bus was attacked around the Otukpo Burnt Bricks Area on April 3, resulting in the driver’s D3ATH and a passenger.
She mentioned that the armed kidnappers have taken the other 14 passengers to an unknown destination since then.
Anene added that the commander worked with the state Civil Protection Guard to rush into the scene and found the driver and a passenger injured in the vehicle after others were driven away by the kidnappers.
“The injured were transferred to a hospital where the doctor confirmed dead. The team immediately searched the kidnapped victims in the nearby forest.
On April 4, about 1,500 hours, they saw bandits in the forest and had a gun showdown with them. The police’s high firepower made them surrender, and they followed them and gave up the captives.
Unfortunately, they made match cuts to the two victims before the rescue. “Four victims were rescued and taken to hospital, one of whom was confirmed dead and the others were being treated,” she said.
Anene said police commissioner Steve Yabanet sympathized with the family of the deceased and promised to make a reservation for the permanent escort.
She said he ordered the Otukpo people to take note of the shooting and report it to police because many bandits suffered gunshot wounds during the fire change.
