A police sergeant from the South African Police Service (SAPS), Ngudumane Hamlet Mahlalela, appeared in the Protea Magistrates Court on Thursday, February 20, for the murder of his wife.
Mahlalela allegedly shot and killed his wife, Jane Mashudu Mahlalela, at her home in Protea Glen in Soweto, on February 14, 2025.
The defendant allegedly heard the person who was quarreling with the deceased because he did not sleep at home the night before, and later they heard gunshots.
The defendant disappeared from the scene with a minor child.
He was running away until he handed himself over to Moroka Saps on February 18, 2025, while being found at his aunt’s residence.
