Anambra Information Specialist, Law MeforSome politicians have been relocating in local communities to obtain a National Identity Number (NIN) in their national ID cards for voter ID cards, said in a statement Wednesday.
Mefor explains that the purpose of politicians is to use voters’ NIN and personal details to illegally hijack voter cards.
This way, they can cover legal voter cards and issue new voter cards under their name or the names of colleagues.
It reads:The Anambra State Government has been subject to activities by certain individuals and groups that are collecting National Identity Numbers (NINs) around various communities, from unsuspecting residents.
“These people mistakenly claim that the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is conducting NIN re-verification or issuing permanent national ID cards.
“However, inquiry with NIMC has confirmed that no such exercises are currently underway.
Further investigations show that the people are part of a fraud scheme allegedly sponsored by desperate politicians.
“Their purpose is to illegally hijack voter cards using citizens’ NIN and personal details. By doing so, they can cover legal voter cards and issue new voter cards in their own name or colleagues’ names.
“This criminal activity means that during the election, the true owner of the stolen identity may not be able to vote because the voter database no longer considers it as a valid voter.
“The government therefore advises anyone to submit his or her NIN with 5111 5111 charges and other necessary actions.”
