
Pope Leo XIV invited President Tinubu to Rome, Italy to attend his inauguration on Sunday, May 18.
The ceremony marks the beginning of the religious figures of Pope Leo, the 267th bishop of Rome, which will be held in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.
Inviting Nigerian President Pietro Parolin to represent Pope Leo Xiv, he stressed that Tinubu “a presence of Tinubu at this critical moment to the existence of the Catholic Church” amid global tensions and conflicts.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said in a statement issued on Thursday that the visit highlighted strong diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the Vatican.
“When I worked in the Apostle New York City of Lagos in the 1980s, your great country was especially me.”
President Tinob’s entourage includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of Archbishop Overeri, Archbishop Overeri and President of the Archbishops of Nigeria, Archbishop Abu Igma Igma Igma Igma Igma Igma Igma, Abuja and Alfred Martins of Alfred Martins and Alfred Martins.
Mathew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, is also among the president’s entourage.
Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, will be officially installed in the sublime office on Sunday, May 18 in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.
27 days after his former Pope Francis died on April 21, the Cardinal’s meeting elected him.
President Tinob will return to Abuja on Tuesday, May 20.
