Popular content creator Iniobong Esther Louis, popularly known as Sunshine, who sadly passed away earlier this month, will be laid to rest on Wednesday, January 28, in Lagos.
A funeral notice shared by her friend and creator Chidera Madu on Tuesday revealed that Sunshine’s remains will leave the Lagos Island Marina General Hospital and be buried at Atan Cemetery in Yaba.
Sunshine, 34, died on January 9, 2026 due to complications from fibroid surgery. She hails from Nnung Udoe Itak in Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Her family confirmed her death in a statement, saying: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved sister and daughter, Esther Thomas (aka Sunshine), who passed away on January 9, 2026 after an unsuccessful surgical procedure.”
According to Madu, Sunshine began to experience severe abdominal pain on December 28, 2025, and the condition became more serious on New Year’s Day. She initially sought treatment at the Orchid General Hospital in Lagos, where she was only given painkillers due to a doctors’ strike.
On January 2, she was transferred to another hospital, where a large fibroid was found. Doctors recommended immediate surgery, which was ultimately deemed a success.
Unfortunately, Sunshine developed complications after the surgery, which ultimately led to her death.
In other news… 22-year-old Kenyan environmental activist Truphena Muthoni has set a new Guinness World Record after completing the longest tree-hugging marathon for 72 hours.
The record-breaking feat took place on December 11, 2025, outside the Nyeri County Governor’s Office, where Musoni repeatedly hugged a royal palm tree despite adverse weather conditions. She broke the record of about 50 hours held by Ghanaian Frederick Boakye.
The achievement marked her second attempt at the record, following a 48-hour effort earlier in 2025. Explaining her motivation, Mousoni said, “Hugging a tree shows that nature is not separate from us, it is a family.”
Her activities focus on raising awareness of environmental protection, particularly the protection of native trees amid growing concerns about climate change. The challenge tested her physical and mental endurance, as she stayed awake and in constant contact with the tree for three days.
After being officially approved by Guinness World Records on January 26, 2026, Kenyan President William Ruto awarded Mutoni the Heads of State Medal (HSC) and appointed her ambassador for Kenya’s 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign.
Her achievements have sparked widespread admiration, with local businesses and supporters offering incentives ranging from financial pledges to holiday packages. Musoni hopes her actions will inspire others to get involved in tree planting and environmental protection.
