Popular Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, known for his stage name portable, has been remanded to the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Kwara State Capital Ilorin, after he was unable to meet the strict bail conditions imposed by the upper district court.
On Monday, April 14, the portable man appeared in court on the charge of defamation of defamation. The court ruled that portable would provide two margins.
According to the court order, one of the guarantors must be the chairman or secretary of the Nigerian Performing Musicians Association (PMAN), while the other must be the owner of the property within the Ilorin Government Reservation Area (GRA) and receive a valid certificate of occupancy (o).
Despite being released on bail, the “Zazoo Zeh” Crooner was unable to fulfill the conditions immediately.
The case was recorded under the First Information Report (FIR) 117(1) CPC, filed by the National Intelligence Department of the Nigerian Police Department, following a petition of March 21, 2025 by artist Okunola Saheed Osupa (also known as Osupa).
According to the petition, on March 19, 2025, Portable was broadcast live on Instagram, allegedly slandering Osupa, claiming that the complainant envied his success and tried to destroy his reputation.
In the video, a portable note is quoted:
“This guy Day tries to lower my light! He’s like a guy wey dey shop shail shell and shell – no feeling. Osupana Tortoise. When Apple Music and Spotify dropped money for me, he deleted my songs from the platform, he couldn’t see my songs, I couldn’t see money (This guy tries to darken my light! My songs are from the platform, so I won’t get money).”
In his statement, the complainant Osupa insisted that portable speech is not only defamatory and destructive, but also aims to promote public hatred and disturb peace.
Police said the allegations were reportedly admitted to the allegations after an interrogation by the Ilorin State Intelligence Department (SID).
The defendants were interrogated under several legal provisions: Article 392 (criminal slander), Article 114 (incitement of riots), and Article 397 (criminal intimidation).
