
A Toyota with 18-seat registration number 283, XA crashed into the busy Damagum market at Yobe State, K! Ling Lingling’s pregnant woman, another 4 pregnant women, and 19 were injured.
Livinus Yilzoom, department commander of the state’s federal road safety department, confirmed the casualties told Channel TV on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 that the incident occurred Sunday night when pedestrian victims closed from the market.
“Please note that the five people are not the occupants of the vehicle, but they are pedestrians waiting to cross on the roadside,” he said.
“The driver tried to avoid pedestrians from encountering five people who were killed when they lost control due to the speed of travel.
The commander further revealed that after receiving the information, Dogon Kuka’s unit command sent the crash investigation team to the scene and evacuated the victim to Damagum General Hospital for medical care.
He said the investigation showed that the violation of speed limits and control losses were the direct cause of the crash.
Other witnesses spoke to channel TV, complaining that market locations on highways are increasing in most communities, especially on market dates.
