President Tinubu eventually sacked service chiefs and top military officials amid fears of alleged coup plot

President Bola Tinubu has announced the immediate dismissal of Chief of Defense Staff General Christopher Musa and other service chiefs in a major overhaul of Nigeria’s military leadership.

The decision is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the national security framework, according to a statement issued Friday by Special Advisor to the President for Media and Public Communications Sunday Dyer.

The statement revealed that General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defense Staff, replacing General Moussa. Major General W. Shaibu has been appointed as the Chief of Army Staff and Air Vice Marshal SK Aneke has been appointed as the new Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral Abbas was appointed Chief of Naval Staff.

Major General EAP Undiendeye will continue to serve as Director of Defense Intelligence.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing service chiefs for their dedication and service to the country, commending them for their contribution in safeguarding national security.

He also urged the newly commissioned officers to maintain professionalism, vigilance and unity within the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“All appointments are effective immediately,” the statement concluded.
