President Tinubu praises National Assembly members for approving emergency rules for rivers

President Bola Tinubu praised the National Assembly’s decisive and patriotic approval of the Rivers National Emergency announcement, a key step in restoring stability after a protracted political crisis that occupied a lasting political crisis that paralyzed the country and allowed the country to reduce national economic security within 15 months.

In a statement signed by his media aide Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the leadership of the National Assembly – Bacon President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, other leading officials Tajudeen Abbas, other chief officials, other members and members, to “prioritize” the security and welfare of the river’s national interests.

The President further acknowledged the lawmakers’ diligent review of confidential security briefings, highlighting the urgent need for intervention to prevent further escalation. ”

“The crisis in River State is at a dangerous turning point, threatening the security of important oil and gas facilities and undermining the national economy and the significant progress we have made in reforms since the government began in May 2023.

As I detailed in my March 18 speech to the country, there is almost a total collapse of governance, there is no room for hesitation to threats to federal economic assets and widespread risks of violence. Such urgent measures are to maintain livelihoods, ensure critical infrastructure and restore democratic accountability. ”

The president confirmed that the six-month emergency would allow the newly appointed sole executive to stabilize the River State, resolve systematic breakdowns and facilitate dialogue among the parties to the conflict.

President Tinob also reiterated the government’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the National Assembly to promote peace, economic resilience and equitable development in Nigeria.

“Today’s decision illustrates what our country will achieve when goals and patriotism guides leaders’ actions. We remain firm in pursuing a safer and more prosperous Nigeria, which the potential of every citizen is maintained and cultivated,” he said.
