US President Donald Trump suggested that Russia’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup could be an “inspiration” for the country to end the Ukrainian war.
Since then, since February 2022, Russia has been banned since February 2022. This suspension has affected the country and clubs, including the World Cup and European Championships.
The ban is implemented by FIFA and UEFA until further notice, which means Russia will not participate in upcoming matches, including the 2026 World Cup
Trump is questioned about Russia’s possible participation in next year’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Trump spoke side by side with FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the first meeting of his World Cup task force, admitting he was unaware that Russia was banned from playing.
Trump said: “Don’t I know?
“Yes,” Infantino replied. “They are temporarily banned from the competition, but we hope something will happen and peace will happen so that Russia can be restored. ”
Trump said: “It’s possible. Hey, this could be a good incentive, right?
“We want them to stop. We want them to stop. Russian and Ukrainian soldiers killed five thousand young people a week, even unreliable.
“The horrible thing that happened over there, we will stop the war.”
Russia is currently unable to participate in the championship next summer and the United States will not participate in the qualifying round.
