According to reports, members of the Catari royal family will present a luxury Boeing 747-800 aircraft to U.S. President Donald Trump, an estimated value of $400 million.
The 13-year-old will be transferred to the U.S. Air Force and upgraded to meet military specifications for presidential traffic, according to sources cited by ABC News and the New York Times. It is expected to be designated as the future Air Force One.
The Katari royal family, the richest in the world, with an estimated net worth of $335 billion, is a gift laggard, the most valuable foreign donation ever made to the U.S. government. The move has reviewed its legitimacy and implications.
The report said that once Trump leaves the office, the plane will be donated to his presidential library, allowing him to continue entering it as a private citizen.
To raise legal challenges, Trump’s legal team, including Attorney General Pam Bondi and top White House lawyer David Warrington, reportedly have prepared legal documents, calling the gift “legally allowed.”
They believe this does not violate U.S. law prohibiting federal officials from accepting gifts from foreign governments, nor does it violate constitutional provisions for foreign influence.
This development came when Trump was preparing for a diplomatic journey to the Middle East, with Qatar on his itinerary. The president had previously stated that he needed new official aircraft.
