Real Madrid’s famous coach Carlo Ancelotti will face tax fraud charges next week.
Spanish prosecutors said the 65-year-old Italian reported no more than one million euros ($1.1 million) in image rights between 2014 and 2015.
They hope he will be sentenced to four years and nine months in prison.
Understand the charges
The trial will begin Wednesday and is expected to last for two days.
Ancelotti must attend the court. Officials claimed that although he reported Real Madrid’s salary at the time, he did not announce additional income.
Even though he said he was a Spanish tax resident and lived in Madrid, they said he used the “complex” and “unclear” system of fake companies to hide money from his image rights and real estate income.
Ancelotti’s reaction and legal steps
In 2023, a Spanish court ruled that Ancelotti had to be tried, but the date was not settled until recently.

“When resolving this last year, Ancelotti saw it as an ‘old story’ and expressed hope to resolve it quickly.”
Ancelotti’s successful career
Ancelotti first became Real Madrid coach in 2013, but left to manage Bayern Munich in 2016 in May 2015.
He was a top player before coaching and won two European Cups with AC Milan.
Over the years, he coached large clubs like Naples and Everton before returning to Real Madrid in 2021.
As a coach, he won five Champions League titles, the most in history.
He also won league titles in Spain (Real Madrid), Italy (Milan), England (Chelsea), Germany (Bayern Munich) and France (PSG), making him one of the greatest managers of all time.
With the trial approaching, the football community is eager to see what will happen next in this main situation.
