In the recently concluded AFCON 2023, the fight for gender equality was once again gained at AFCON 2023, like the Coast of Gender, as it became many first editions of African soccer women, while also providing room for improvement for previous pedal bands in previous editions.
This is an amazing feat for women who are now getting more recognition in African football, a milestone that should be marked and celebrated in the International Women’s Month, which is why we have put up a list of 4 great women who stand out for us in AFCON 2023.
The first female Afrobeats artist performs at AFCON Yemi Alade
Yemi Alade, also known as the “New Generation Mom Africa”, is one of the most outstanding female artists to participate in the AFCON 2023 Championship. She sang the theme song of the competition, titled “Akwaba”, as well as Magic System and Mohamed Ramadan, but joined two other talented female singers, Abiba and Rinyu, the only one who wrote the theme song for the competition. Yemi Alade’s performance at the opening ceremony of the event was really outstanding. Her perfect rendition of the theme song puts audiences in awe as she enters the center of the stadium.
It is worth noting that Yemi Alade became the first female Afrobeats artist ever to become the AFCON theme song and the first woman to perform at the opening ceremony of the competition. Her contribution to the competition will undoubtedly be an important milestone for African female artists in history.

AFCON Amanda Dlamini’s first female commentator
The South African star was specially designated Amanda Dlamini When she became the first female commentator for the African Cup of Nations, it provided a new milestone for women in the history of African football.

Bouchra Karboubi, the first North African woman to host a men’s football match
Moroccan Bouchra Karboubi, with a whistle and many countries, was responsible for the last set of A fixtures Nigeria vs Guinea Bissau and became the first North African woman to host a men’s football match and the second female referee to host a large African men’s football match.
This is a huge development, accompanied by the fact that AFCON 2023 itself has 5 female referees who are internal components of the game itself, the first in Africa.
Describing her experience said: “The referee’s game is an honor for me. During the last AFCON, I was the first woman to do VAR, and I was in the finals, and on this AFCON, I was the central referee. This is my pride in representing African women and representing referees in Africa. The Guinea Peso-Nigeria match was a serious challenge for me. We have to prove that we are here, the first female referee trio. Therefore, we have no room for mistakes because we have tried our best to realize the trust that CAF has in us. ”
More young female journalists
AFCON 2023 sees more young female journalists (photographers, printing and media) showing great interest in the competition. This is the first of its kind, and it also shows that the barriers to existence are slowly beginning to disappear.
