The House warned that Rivers State’s only executive, Ibok Ete Ibas, deputy administrator (retired), would not make any laws in the state, saying he had no constitutional powers.
The House illustrates this in the context of the administrator’s plan after declaring a state of emergency in March.
House Deputy Spokesperson Philip Agbese said in an interview with Punch that spokesman Tajudeen Abbas is consulting with the leaders of the House to establish a committee to monitor Admiral Ibas’s behavior.
“The sole administrator has no authority to perform the functions of the National Assembly in the current situation to create laws. The Speaker of the House is consulting with the leaders to establish a committee to oversee the activities of the administrator and ensure the interests of the state representing the river.
We assume that the President has been informed of our resolutions regarding the appointment and mission of administrators. If administrators go beyond their powers, the House will take necessary actions, including the possibility of a vote without confidence, to ensure accountability and compliance with the rule of law. ”
Last week, Admiral Ibas announced plans to prepare a new budget for the state’s operations over the next six months. This move was condemned by many, many saying he had no right to do so.
