News360 Nigeria reports that the House of Representatives Review Committee has received requests to establish 31 states in six geopolitical regions of the country.
This is included in a letter from the Commission. The letter also lists the conditions required before the country is created.
The countries considered are Okun State, Okura State and Confluence countries in Kogi; Benue Ala and APA countries in Benue; FCT state; Amana State from Adamawa, Katagum of Bauchi State, Savannah State and Taraba of Borno Muri State
The states also include New Kaduna State and Gujarat from Kaduna State; Tiga and Ari from Kano, and Kainji from Kebbi State; Etiti and Orashi are the sixth state in the southeast, Adada from Enugu, Orlu Abd Aba . southeast.
It also includes Ogoja from Cross River, Warri from Delta, Ori and Rivers from Rivers; Torumbe from Ondo, Ibadan Grom Oyo, Lagos in Lagos, Lagos and Ogun, Ijebu from Ogun, Oke Ogun/ijesha, Oyo/ Ogun/Ogun/Osun States
According to the letter, Article 8 of the revised 1999 Constitution outlines the specific requirements that must be met to initiate the national creation process.
The letter said: “The Regional and Local Government Council will only be received through the National Assembly if requests are supported by at least the third majority of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
“Remind only that local governments advocate for the establishment of other local government areas, and Article 8 of the revised Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria applies to this process.
“Specifically, under Article 8.3 of the Constitution, the voting results of the Citizen Box Office China Club must be forwarded to the National Assembly to meet the state requirements.
“The regulations should be strictly followed and recommendations should be reproduced. Three hard copies of the memorandum submitted in Room H331, the White House, the National Assembly Building and the Secretariat of the Committee of Abuja.
“Subselling must also be sent electronically to the committee’s email address.
“The Commission remains committed to supporting implementation in line with the constitutional provisions and will only consider recommendations that meet the prescribed guidelines.”
