Ian Stanley Wagner was identified as the man arrested outside United Health Headquarters in Minnetonka, Minnesota on Monday, April 14.
Wagner was detained on suspicion of threats of violence. Law enforcement officers reported that Wagner contacted the FBI’s Minneapolis field office that morning to threaten UN Health unless certain requirements were met.
The FBI said Wagner had any special grievances with UnitedHealthcare despite links to high-profile events earlier this year. In this case, UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson was shot dead in New York City, with prosecutors accusing Luigi Mangione of being a shooter.
Authorities say Wagner threatened to use a gun and asked for $1 million, claiming he would not be alive. After negotiations with crisis negotiators, Wagner surrendered and the FBI contingent worked with Minnetka police to help him arrest him. After being arrested, a gun was recovered from his car. The incident prompted police to react very much at UnitedHealthcare headquarters.
