Saraki has no right to talk about my defection. Atiku is leaving PDP

Saraki has no right to talk about my defection. Atiku is leaving PDP -Okowa

Former Delta Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa claims that former Vice President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023 will leave the party.

Okowa made the claim in an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, April 29, where he also confirmed his rebellion to All Progress Conference (APC) along with Delta Governor Sheriff Oberevwori and several other key PDP figures in the state.

“I discussed Atiku’s alliance with Atiku, who moved to APC,” Okowa revealed. In the ongoing internal challenges within the PDP, Atiku is reevaluating his political future.

Okowa keeps distance from the initiative when the big opposition coalition proposed by Atiku unites the party with the APC ahead of the election. “It seems that there is no viable vehicle confirmed for the league, nor does it seem that there is no alliance that can build strength in such a short time,” he said.

Instead, Okowa expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, endorsing a full eight-year term for the incumbent and believes that this would benefit the country and retain the principle of rotating presidents. “For stability in this country, it’s better to get us through eight years. Then the president can go back to the north. I believe that’s the right thing to do.”

Okowa attributes his departure from the PDP to the deterioration of the party’s internal crisis, which he said has eroded its ability to participate in the upcoming elections. He explained: “We held various meetings with several stakeholders and consulted some leaders who were not politicians even before we made this decision. It was not just the governor or myself. It was the consensus of a wider political family in this territorial area of Dahl.”

Okowa criticized former Senate President Bukola Saraki: “Saraki has no moral right to speak. He attended the party many times.”
