Saudi Arabia has officially announced that the holy month of Ramadan will see the new moon on Saturday, March 1.
The announcement marks the beginning of a month-long fasting and spiritual dedication of more than 1.8 billion Muslims around the world.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and the 12-month cycle lasts for 354 or 355 days.
Observing fasting from sunrise to sunset is a fundamental pillar of Islam and is essential for all healthy adult Muslims.
However, the exemption applies to children, older people, patients, travelers and women who are pregnant, nursing or menstruating.

Maina said the school closure is consistent with the state-approved school calendar for the state’s 2024-2025 academic conference.
Maina revealed that the closure will start from March 1 to April 5.
