- Tanim Turaki, the new chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, has made an urgent appeal to President Donald Trump and other world leaders to intervene and stabilize Nigeria’s democracy, which he insists is under serious threat.
- Turaki pointed to the recent chaos and police takeover at the People’s Democratic Party headquarters due to feud between factions loyal to Nyesom Wike and Seyi Makinde as evidence of the danger.
- He accused Wike of exploiting police-backed mobs and vowed his faction was ready to fight to protect the party’s mission and democratic structures.

New Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Tanim Turaki has renewed his urgent appeal to President Donald Trump and world leaders to help save Nigeria’s democracy, insisting that current political tensions require immediate global attention.
Turaki believes that the deep crisis within the HDP – especially the chaotic clashes at the party headquarters – points to a serious threat to the country’s governance system.
The chairman made the remarks while reacting to the chaos that ensued after the police took over the National Headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja, which fueled discord between factions loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and supporters of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
Turaki warned that partners concerned with efforts to save Nigeria’s democracy must not ignore the situation. He explicitly called on the former US president to:
“I want to call on President Trump, what is at stake is not just genocide against Nigerian Christians, you should come and save Nigeria’s democracy. Democracy is under threat. I call on all other developing countries, all advanced democracies, to come and save Nigeria.”
Turaki accused Wike of allegedly leading an armed mob backed by the police to create chaos at the People’s Democratic Party secretariat, claiming that such acts were a clear attempt to intimidate party members.
The People’s Democratic Party chairman insisted that his faction would resist any attempt to undermine democratic values, saying:
“I’ve said it before, we are willing to sacrifice our lives to protect our office, to protect our democracy, to protect our mission.”
He urged the international community to pay close attention to developments and intervene if necessary.
