Science and Technology Minister Geoffrey Nnaji resigns over fake Nigerian university degree certificate

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Innovation, Science and Technology Minister Geoffrey Uche Nnaji following recent allegations against him.

Nnaji, who joined the federal cabinet in August 2023, tendered his resignation in a letter on Tuesday and thanked the president for the opportunity to serve.

In his letter, the former minister said his decision to resign was influenced by an “extortion campaign” orchestrated by political opponents. He, however, thanked President Tinob for the confidence and trust reposed in him during his tenure.

Reacting to the development, Tinubu expressed gratitude to NNAJI for his service to the country and wished him all the best in his future endeavours.

The announcement was contained in a statement on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Advisor to the President for Information and Strategy.
