
Like the House, the Senate also approved President Bola Tinubu’s announcement of the River State Emergency, invoking his constitutional powers under the 1999 amended Constitution.
Approval of President Tinob’s authority to implement emergency measures, while requesting a review of the situation at any time, but not for more than six months.
Under the Constitution, the National Assembly also imposes joint committees of two parliaments to oversee the administration of Rivers State affairs during emergency periods.
In addition, the Senate is determined to establish a mediation committee composed of prominent Nigerians to help resolve the state’s political crisis.
