Controversial Nigerian singer Seun Kuti has weighed in on the viral confrontation between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Navy officer Ahmad Yerima in a video that has received widespread response across the country.
The heated exchange between Wike and the young police officer had earlier prompted comments from several people, including social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as “Verydarkman” (VDM), who accused the minister of his behavior and warned him not to encroach on land meant for his NGO.
Reacting to the incident, Seun Kuti criticized his close friends VDM and Yerima, saying the officer’s actions were far from brave. According to him, true bravery should be found in refusing to obey orders to defend what he calls “illegal land” and instead uphold the Nigerian constitution.
Kuti insisted that true courage lies in defending the law, adding that Yerima’s so-called bravery was misplaced. He even said that the real resistance was when the officer boldly told Wick, “Your father is a fool.”
The singer didn’t stop there, describing Vic and Yerima’s behavior in the viral clip as disgraceful, calling them “cowards” who were embarrassing the country.
Kuti further noted that if Yerima and others in the army were truly brave, banditry and insecurity would not have ravaged the country. He concluded by noting that the weaknesses of the Nigerian military only became apparent after it was deployed against the insurgents, lacking proper equipment, weapons and armored vehicles.
