New details have emerged about the tragic death of rising Nigerian singer Ifunanya Nwangene, also known as Nanya_music or Soprano Queen, who reportedly died after being bitten by a cobra at her home in Abuja.
A popular choir singer in Abuja, Ifunanya, died on Saturday, January 31, allegedly due to a snake bite.
In response to the incident, Aproko Doctor, a popular online doctor, said that the late Ifonanya did not die from a snake bite, but from his actions after the incident.
In a video he shared online, Dr Apro said the late Ifonanya went to two different hospitals for antivenom injection, but both hospitals turned her away because they did not have the antivenom.
He said:
“I’m sure you’ve heard the story about the lady who died after being bitten by a snake. It’s a very sad story, especially when you think about it, but if I tell you, it wasn’t the wine that killed her.
“Whether it’s in the jungle, in the city, in India or other countries, snakes bite people. Snakes bite people, but they don’t die that way. They don’t die just because they go to two different hospitals and they look them in the eye and tell them ‘we don’t have antivenom.’ In a country where snakes live… it’s 2026… not 1980 or 1970… it’s 2026.”
Even more shocking, he added, is that Nigeria has an antivenom developed specifically for Nigerian snakes.
“It’s called Echitab. The question is why didn’t the hospital she went to have this antivenom in the refrigerator?
“Simply because we have forgotten the basics. Our politicians have forgotten flyovers without ambulances. We are focusing on building ‘ultra-modern hospitals’ when primary healthcare centers should be the first point of call in any functioning country.
“Instead of focusing on that, they want to do a big project, cut the ribbon, and everyone will applaud them because they’re trying to focus on the next election instead of the people’s lives they’re supposed to be saving.” he said.
