A relationship story shared by a woman on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked widespread debate about commitment, honesty and emotional responsibility in modern dating.

According to the post, the woman revealed that her friend had been dating his girlfriend for three years before making the statement that shocked many social media users.

She explained that after the man shared a photo with his girlfriend, she jokingly asked him when he planned to propose. The man reportedly didn’t brush it off and responded, “She’s not my kind of wife,” even though they had been dating for three years.

The comment quickly sparked outrage, disappointment and in-depth discussion online, with many users questioning why someone would stay in a long-term relationship without clear intentions for marriage or a future together.

Mata questioned the lack of honesty in response to the post, saying:
“What a waste of a girl’s time. Why can’t people be honest about how they feel and if they see a future for themselves? Why a waste of anyone’s time, including yours?”

Rebecca expressed a similar sentiment, saying:
“It doesn’t take long to figure out whether someone is a marriageable person, but I’ve never understood why you’d waste other people’s time while you figure that out.”

Raven concludes with a metaphorical critique:
“Three years later and she’s still not ‘wife material’ for him? Bro just admitted that he’s been auditioning someone he already knows he can’t cast. Stop letting the plot twist go and tell him to let her go find the real leading man.”

    Fein wrote:
“Three years of dating, shared memories, and probably countless compromises, and he still thinks she’s ‘not his type’ of a wife? This is not only indecisive, but also careless and unfair.

“Imagine investing your time, energy, and emotion into someone, only for them to drop that line like it means nothing. Three years is enough time for you to know if someone is right for you. If he doesn’t see that, that’s a reflection on him, not her.”

    GirlSoulGuru added:
“Three years??? He said it out loud like usual??? Men will laugh and waste your youth, I’m sick.”

    Timmy commented:
“Damn ngga crazy, why waste her time when you know you have nothing to do with her?”

InkForTruth described the situation as deeply disturbing, writing:
“It’s truly a chilling reminder that some people see relationships not as a journey toward partnership, but as a set pattern that occupies time until their real lives begin.”
