A seal veteran crashed into the Hudson River in New York in a helicopter and made a shocking call before the disaster.
Agustín Escobar and Mercè Camprubí Montal traveled from Spain to the United States with their three children, 10 years old, Mercè, eight years old and Víctor of four, to celebrate Ms. Camprubí’s birthday.
Everything was killed when the plane broke above the water near Manhattan.
Seankese’Sean’ Johnson, 36, has since been identified as a pilot of the plane.
The owner of the doomed helicopter revealed the pilot’s broadcast base, saying they returned to the helicopter to refuel.
“He called him to land and needed fuel, which should have taken about three minutes to arrive, but 20 minutes later, he didn’t arrive.”
The 71-year-old owns a company that offers helicopter tours to the city called New York Helicopters.
“We were all destroyed. Every employee in our company was destroyed. My wife didn’t stop crying.
“I got a call from the manager and downtown Heliport, and she said she heard about a crash and my phone exploded from everyone.
“And one of my pilots flew over Hudson and saw the helicopter reversed.”
The tragedy happened around 3.15 pm on Thursday, April 10, near New Jersey.
Radar data shows it flew north along the Manhattan skyline and then headed south toward the Statue of Liberty.
Johnson hit the river at high speed and stood under the control of the chopper just 15 minutes after taking off.
Video shows that as the craft nose dives into the water, its rotors tear open and debris pierce through the air.
The disaster is under investigation, but the official cause has not been confirmed.
Nigerian man Remi Adeleke directed the late pilot, and he went to Instagram to mourn him.
