Renowned actress and content creator Patience Yisa, popularly known as Pepe, has revealed that creating short dramas played a crucial role in the development of her career.
Through her skits, Pepe has a growing online presence, with more than 1.4 million fans on Facebook, nearly a million followers on TikTok and Instagram, and nearly 100,000 subscribers on YouTube.
she said in a recent interview.
She said: “Really nothing happened except that I tried to diversify. I started out as an actor and fell in love with skit making. Who wouldn’t want to do skits under 30 minutes and make money from it? You know, skit making makes money faster than movies. You want to make money in addition to your passion. No one wants to follow a passion and end up broke.
“When I saw the opportunity to make short dramas, I decided to take it. I’m back in the industry. In fact, I’ve done two movies in a row. One of them, Lost Blood, is currently getting rave reviews on Youtube. From now on, I hope to see more productions. I’m just taking a break and doing short dramas.
“Honestly, this is one of the most lucrative careers as an entertainer. Skit making saved and changed my life. Almost everyone does skits these days; Mercy Johnson, Destiny Etiko, Don Jazzy, etc. When you make money through artist fees, you can also make money through social media platforms.
“This platform is important for everyone. Gone are the days when you had to go through executive producers, producers and so on before becoming successful in Nollywood. The industry has grown so much and with the invention of these new platforms, no one wants to rely on anyone anymore to promote them. At the end of the day, Youtube is our retirement plan.”
