A six-year-old girl was killed in a match between the Lagos State Police Command and a suspect criminal today on March 5.
The father of the deceased, Nnamdi Ugorji, told Saharareporter that officials from the Moshalashi police station were pursuing the suspect when they fatally attacked his daughter at the Ecobank roundabout in Iyana-Ipaja.
“The police are chasing someone and in the process they hit my daughter with a vehicle. My daughter went to Ecobank with her siblings to withdraw money from the ATM. When they returned, a speeding car hit my daughter and killed her.
He accused the police of trying to cover up the incident by falsely claiming that the car had somersaulted.
“For anyone who sees the car, they’re lying. The car is in the police station, but they want to cover up their crimes to get themselves exempted. The police are the ones who cause this problem and they’re lying. My child is only 6 years old – she’s my first daughter,” Ugorji added, his voice full of emotion.
He explained that he was at Ogba’s workplace when he received news that his daughter was being chased by police.
“Why are the police responsible for preventing and detecting crimes, maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property lying without anything happening? They know what they have done to my children. He sighs
The upset father said his daughter’s body would be transported to a village in Abia for proper burial. He called on the Minister of Women’s Affairs Bola Tinubu and Police Inspector Kayode Egbetokun to intervene and ensure that the officers responsible for their daughter’s death were brought to justice.
“Now I don’t know what to do. Where would I take the money to bury the village as a poor person? Unfortunately, the people who should be protected are the ones who killed us. I call on all the kind Nigerians to help my daughter.
However, Lagos State Police spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin responded to the incident, saying it was violated, a commercial bus that attacked the deceased.
“We sympathize with the families of the deceased. However, preliminary investigations show that the girl was hit by a commercial bus and her driver was panicked when she saw an approaching police car.
The driver is in custody and an investigation is underway. ”
