
A 25-year-old soldier, Yahaya Yunusa, was arrested by the Nigerian military for possessing ammunition in the Igabi local government area of Kaduna State.
According to the Saharareporters, Yunusa, who was attached to 197 special forces battalions in Zamfara State, was arrested at around 11:55 a.m. on Friday, while illegally carrying 214 rounds of link channels for various links.
The report shows that the soldier, together with his military ID, found unauthorized ammunition and several automated teller machine (ATM) cards were found when he was arrested.
According to reports, the breakdown of Yunusa ammunition includes 50 rounds of 12.7×108mm and 69 rounds of 7.62×54mmr – a kit twice linked by a chain – 35 rounds of 7.62×54mmr, and 60 rounds of 60 rounds of 60 rounds of 5.56×45mm.
He also claimed to have personal ATM cards for Opay, Unity Bank, Access Bank and First Bank at the time of his arrest.
Yunusa reportedly admitted during the interrogation that the ammunition was retrieved during operation and said he was the operator of the Air Defense (AA) machine gun installed on a military vehicle.
