South African High Court, Eastern Cape Teacher Mthatha, on Tuesday, his 17-year-old girlfriend and her 70-year-old grandmother’s M8rder sentenced a Sihle Manciya (26) to two life insurance policies.
The court sentenced him to two other life sentences for his attempts by his girlfriend’s mother and sister. The terms of life will run at the same time.
The women were attacked by Manciya at their residence in Sulenkama, Qumbu on the evening of April 29, 2024.
Manciya admits in a guilty plea explanation that he has a romantic relationship with Simcelile Nozulu and suspects that she has a relationship with another man.
On the night in question, he walked from his nearby home in Lwandlana to Nozulu’s home, where he found the family sleeping in Rondavel.
The doors and windows were closed, but the lights inside were on. Armed with a gondola, he entered Rondaville through the window and stabbed all the adults in the room without any love. Then, he fled the scene.
Grandma’s throat was slit and was on the scene, while others were taken to the hospital. Simcelile was proven dead when he arrived at the hospital, while two survivors were seriously injured.
The next day, Manciya told his employer what he did. The employer then informed the police of Mancia’s arrest, which he admitted before the magistrate.
State defense attorney avumile Bikitsha argued that Mancia’s confession and guilty confession were not signs of remorse, but signs of regret.
He stressed that when he armed himself with a knife, he had enough time to reconcile himself with what he was going to do, and took a long distance from village to village and attacked the women in defense without provocation.
ADV. Bikita added that in the interests of the entire society, women perpetrators are severely punished to stop other possible criminals.
The court agreed and was not dissatisfied with the defense’s opinion, because he was sentenced to 15 years in prison when he was young, and he worked with law enforcement and did not waste the court’s time.
Eastern Cape Public Prosecutor Barry Madolo welcomed the verdict and pointed out that the importance of human life can never be overemphasized, and therefore the NPA will be energetic in the case we pursue these cases, Ensure a just society for all members.
